Air Safari and Discovery Tour Program.
The best way to travel...

There is nothing like to fly away by float plane to discover the Arctic Quebec and Labrador northern region. We have prepared just for you an unbeatable blend of scenic attraction, discoveries and adventures adapted to your request.

Your plane, usually a bush plane like Cessna180, will get you from Rapid Lake to your chosen scenic air route / discovery tour.

We have over 15 years of experience at guiding Air Safaris and Discovery Tours in the Torngat Mountains National Park and the Koroc River Provincial Park. We know where the best scenic attractions are and where to find the wildlife that will interest you.

The characteristic of an air safari or discovery tour with Rapid Lake Lodge is to have your private plane and pilot/ guide all the time with you. No timetable, no rush, no delay, just enjoying the exclusivity of Arctic Quebec & Labrador wildlife and landscape.

The Scenic Air Routes and / or the Discovery Tours are for you to choose.

For example:

If you are mainly interested by wildlife viewing and the Arctic landscape scenery we recommend you to choose:

  • The Land’s End Scenic Air Route / 1 day.
  • The Torngat Mountains Scenic Air Routes / 1 day.
  • The Discovery Tour on caribou viewing / 1 day.

On the other hand you are mainly interested by the Arctic landscape scenery and history we recommend you to opt for:

  • The Torngat Mountains Scenic Air Routes / 1 day.
  • The Kaumajet Mountains Scenic Air Route 1 day.
  • The Discovery Tour at Hebron / 1 day.

The choice is yours…!
You have many options to create your own dream Arctic Air Safari and Discovery Tour.

Each Scenic Air Routes and Discovery Tour is 1 day fly-out, so whatever the air safari you chose makes sure to add a few extra days to relax. Most of our clients will select 2 Air Safaris, 1 Discovery Tour and add a few days (normally two days) to relax and /or to adjust with the weather.

Most of our Scenic Air Routes stops are located within the Torngat Mountains National Park and the Koroc River Provincial Park boundaries. Landing in these parks require landing licences. We are in direct contact with both Quebec and Labrador parks managements offices and we make sure that every participants are registered.

Our location of Rapid Lake on the Tunulic River is within easy flying distance to the Ungava Bay and Labrador coast. This is where all our Air Safaris and Discovery Tours start. We also provide complete meals and lodging services.

In Arctic Quebec there is no other place like Rapid Lake Lodge that has a program that is structured to fly-out everyday.

Daily Activity
Upon arrival at Rapid Lake, the Camp Manager will meet with you to discuss the Scenic Air Route you had chosen and inform you about the options that are available along the route. It is important to remember that weather controls our ability, or lack thereof, to accomplish the fly outs each day.

We do have fixed times for aircraft departures and mealtimes at the lodges, but other than those you can work with your pilot/guide to plan out whatever flying schedule you would like. If you are on an Air Safari for the day, you will depart the lodge after breakfast and be out all day. You will return to the lodge before dinner each day.

A typical Air Safari day is as follows:
6:30 through 7:30 AM Breakfast. You can eat at anytime between 6:30 and 7:30 AM. You pack a lunch and take off from Rapid Lake at 8:30 AM. We normally stop at 4 to 5 different locations during the day. Our first stop is always at Barnoin River camp to gas up. We never fly more than .75 minutes without landing and never exceed 5 hours of flying time per day. We will then return at the lodge at approximately 5:30 PM. Cocktails and appetizers are in the main lodge when you arrive and dinner is at 6:00 PM each night.

En route we stop to walk and explore the nearby points of interest, to take photos and to relax a bit.
